January 21, 2019 – Capitol March for the Dream and Diversity Expo
Each year, thousands residents and visitors take to the streets of Sacramento to honor Martin Luther King Jr. (MLK) and remember the sacrifices made by pioneers of the American Civil Rights Movement during the annual Capitol March for the Dream and Diversity Expo at the Sacramento Convention Center.
“Capitol March” participants will depart at approximately 9:30 a.m. on Monday, January 21, 2019, from Sacramento City College. Marchers will then make their way to the Sacramento Convention Center where the celebration will continue at the Diversity Expo.
Be sure to stop by the SacRT booth at the Sacramento Convention Center, where SacRT’s “Old Blue” historic bus will be on display. The event will include four hours of interactive fun, featuring a multicultural talent showcase, dramatic arts ensemble, poetry/wisdom corner, and employment, health and education vendors.
For marchers who park near Sacramento City College (SCC) or the Oak Park Community Center SacRT will provide supplemental bus service from the Sacramento Convention Center on J Street back to those locations. Marchers can also return to SCC by taking light rail, which runs every fifteen minutes, from the Cathedral Square (10th & K) Station.
To avoid waiting to return to SCC at the end of the march, participants are encouraged to park downtown near the Sacramento Convention Center before the march starts and take light rail from Cathedral Square to SCC. City street parking meters will be free on the MLK holiday making it even more convenient for marchers to catch the Blue Line train from Cathedral Square at 8:06 a.m. or 8:31 a.m. to join the march leaving SCC.
Even better, marchers ride SacRT for free on MLK day!
