Welcome!  Regional Transit (RT) and Sacramento State University invite you to participate in the Modern Bus and New Technologies Seminar scheduled for Tuesday, June 3, 2008, at Sacramento State University Union Ballroom. This seminar will explore emerging modern bus technologies and the role such vehicles will play in future development of the Sacramento Regional Transit District. The seminar is spurred by the development of RT’s Transit Master Plan (TMP), which will involve community participation over the next six months and will conclude by the end of this year. In addition, the elements of the seminar will be directly supportive of the following initiatives:

  • The Sacramento Area Council of Governments (SACOG) Blueprint principles that promote Smart growth development;

  • Connecting communities to the RT regional transit network via modern, stylized, "next generation" vehicles;

  • New fuels and propulsion systems;

  • Potential impact on vehicle miles traveled and reduced congestion on regional highways; and

  • Improved regional air quality, and reduced greenhouse gases.

It is our intent that the seminar will also feature a display of modern buses that are being produced today. The seminar and vehicle displays will educate the community about modern vehicles and new technologies, including alternative fuels and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) components. Nationally renowned speakers, including the keynote speaker Bill Millar, President of the American Public Transportation Association (APTA), will make  presentations throughout the day to explain what buses have to offer the community in 2008 and in the future.

We look forward to your participation and hope to see you there.

Sincerely,

Mike Wiley
