RT Offers Service
to the State Fair

Ready for an adventure? The 2010 California State Fair will be “Your Passport to Adventure” with new dates and all new attractions for the whole family. Enjoy 19 days of family-fun from Wednesday, July 14 to Sunday, August 1.

New attractions include the Days of a Dinosaur exhibit – a prehistoric wonderland full of life-sized robotic dinosaurs and the Jungle & Reptile Adventure that will let you get up close and personal with exotic birds, alligators, large tortoises and more. There are bargains to be found at this year’s California State Fair. Can’t decide between a corn dog and a deep-fried Twinkie? This year, you can have both. Food vendors all over the fairgrounds will offer 25 percent lower prices than last year. Save up to 50 percent or more when you buy your State Fair tickets in advance. In addition, California students in grades K-8 are eligible to participate in the Read 2 Ride program. Just read two books, fill out the online report form and redeem it at the fair for two free carnival rides.

Coupons valid for $2 off general admission to the 2010 California State Fair are available with purchase at RT’s Customer Service and Sales Center located at 1225 R Street (adjacent to the 13th Street light rail station), while supplies last.

RT encourages the public to save gas, avoid parking hassles, and ride RT to the California State Fair. Route 67 (Franklin) and Route 68 (44th Street) will provide curb service to the Cal Expo main gate from July 14 through August 1, 2010.

Routes 67 and 68, which connect Florin Mall with Arden Fair Mall, will deviate from their regular routes to drop off and pick up passengers at the main gate located off of Exposition Boulevard. Both routes also serve the 29th Street light rail station, allowing passengers to park at one of RT’s 18 park-and-ride lots and transfer to buses at 29th Street. Routes 67 and 68 operate every 15 minutes during the day and every 30 minutes during the evening.

As a reminder to passengers, late night bus and light rail service was discontinued on June 20, 2010. The last evening trip on Route 68 (to Florin Mall) departs from Cal Expo at 8:55 p.m. and arrives at the 29th Street light rail station at 9:10 p.m.

Due to budget constraints, RT will not operate special weekend shuttle service from the Arden/Del Paso light rail station to the State Fair this year. For bus service from the Arden/Del Paso light rail station to Cal Expo, ride Route 22 (Arden) or 23 (El Camino) to Arden Fair Mall and transfer to Route 67 or 68.

For the return trip to the Arden/Del Paso light rail station on weekdays, passengers can board Route 67 at Cal Expo (to Arden Fair Mall) at 7:50 p.m., connect to Route 23 at Arden Way and Challenge Way at 8:09 p.m., and arrive at the Arden/Del Paso light rail station at 8:17 p.m. The Blue Line to Watt/I-80 departs at 8:27 p.m. and the Blue Line to Meadowview departs at 8:40 p.m.
