Emergency Information
Regional Transit Police Services (RTPS)
SacRT employs a team of professionals to ensure the safety of riders, as well as employees of the transit system. These professionals are made up of police officers, sheriff’s deputies, private security guards, technologically trained personnel, and outreach liaisons to address the safety and well-being of those who interact daily with SacRT.
If This Is an Emergency, Call 9-1-1
SacRT does not maintain a dedicated communications center to dispatch emergency personnel and relies on the Sacramento Police Department and Sacramento Sheriff’s Office to provide these services for RTPS.

On Board Buses and Light Rail Trains
Every transit vehicle operator is in radio contact with the SacRT Bus and Light Rail Control Centers and is trained to respond quickly in emergency situations. Each light rail train is equipped with a red emergency button located near the doorway. In an emergency, press firmly on the emergency button and the operator will notify the Light Rail Control Center, stop the train at the next station, and help.
The more quickly and calmly you let the operator know that you need help, the faster assistance can arrive. As the situation dictates, SacRT personnel ranging from operators to law enforcement officers will be ready to assist you.
At Light Rail Stations or Bus Stops
Each train is equipped with a red emergency button located in the doorway. In an emergency, press firmly on the emergency button and the operator will notify the Light Rail Control Center, stop the train at the next station, and offer assistance.
If no SacRT personnel are nearby to help you, call the Security Operations Center (SOC) at (916) 556-0275, or in an emergency, call 9-1-1 from a mobile phone.
