8th & O Light Rail Station Now Open

8th & O Light Rail Station Is Ready for Your Commute

As of Monday, July 13, 2026, the 8th & O Light Rail Station is open and serving riders on both the eastbound and westbound platforms. The newly renovated station is fully operational, with Gold and Blue Line light rail service now available.

Gold Line

Operating new low-floor light rail trains. Riders board from the platform. Riders in mobility devices should use the two middle doors. Simply press the ADA button to deploy a ramp to board the train.

Blue Line

Operating legacy high-floor light rail trains. Riders board from the platform level, but riders in mobility devices continue to use the mini-high ramp at the end of each station to board in the first train car.

Note: Bus stops at 8th & O and 9th & N remain open and continue to operate as usual.

8th & O Light Rail Station East Platform Closure – Extended Through 2026

The east platform at the 8th & O Station (for trains traveling toward the 8th & Capitol Station) is currently closed due to major renovation construction at the California Department of Water Resources building, located at 1416 9th Street.

This closure is expected to remain in place through 2026, as SacRT needs to modify the inbound station platform to meet the height requirements of the new low-floor trains.

Light rail passengers headed inbound should use the Archives Plaza Station instead. The west platform at 8th & O Station (for trains traveling toward Archives Plaza Station) remains open.

Bus Routes

Starting Tuesday, September 2, 2025, the bus stops at 8th & O and 9th & N reopen after construction wraps up at the DGS building.

The inbound platform at 8th & O Station will remain closed.
