Meet SacRT’s New Chief of Staff

SacRT welcomed Shelly Valenton as its new Chief of Staff last month. Shelly previously served on the Executive Leadership Team at San Joaquin Delta Community College District (Delta College) as the Director of Marketing, Communications and Outreach. Prior to that position, Shelly was the Manager of Strategic Affairs at San Joaquin Regional Transit District (RTD) where she handled major projects and strategic initiatives on behalf of the General Manager/CEO while also leading the agency’s marketing, customer service, community engagement and legislative efforts. While at RTD, she was involved in projects such as the implementation of several BRT corridors, bus electrification, fare enforcement reform, data benchmarking with other transit agencies, fare restructuring, funding advocacy, and the establishment of RTD’s master campus, the Regional Transportation Center. Shelly’s work on project management and marketing both at RTD and Delta garnered regional and national awards for the agencies. Shelly has a Master’s Degree in Business Administration, a BA in Communications, and has also received a Transit-Paratransit Management Certificate from the University of the Pacific.

Reporting to the General Manager/CEO and a member of SacRT’s Executive Management Team, Shelly will be working collaboratively with staff at all levels to help move forward various initiatives and projects for the agency.  “I am honored to be selected for the position and I am fortunate to join SacRT at a time of positive transformation. We are in the middle of some exciting and challenging projects and I am delighted to meet a wonderful team of professionals who are committed to these endeavors,” said Shelly.

She lives in Elk Grove with her husband and two kids. In her spare time, she enjoys mentoring young professionals, volunteering in her kids’ school, traveling, and watching movies and live theater performances.
