September 5, 2023 SacRT News

The Sacramento Regional Transit District (SacRT) is excited to announce that it will be offering systemwide free rides on Thursday, September 7, 2023, in honor of the International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies. This initiative aims to raise awareness about air quality issues and encourage the community to choose sustainable transportation options.

Passengers can enjoy complimentary rides on SacRT's bus, light rail, SmaRT Ride, and SacRT GO paratransit services. There's no need to present a flyer – simply board and experience the convenience of SacRT services while contributing to cleaner air.

Sacramento has been grappling with significant air quality challenges, with a recent report from the American Lung Association ranking the city among the top ten in the nation for worst levels of ozone and particulate matter. Recognizing that air pollution poses a serious threat to public health, SacRT is encouraging residents to leave their cars at home and take advantage of the free rides on Thursday, September 7.

"By offering free rides on the International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies, we hope to inspire positive change in our community," said SacRT General Manager/CEO Henry Li. "In the Sacramento region, over 50% of the greenhouse gas emissions come from the fossil-fuel transportation sector and we know we can do far better if more ride public transit."

Every ride taken on SacRT on Thursday, September 7 will make a difference, collectively contributing to a greener and healthier future for the Sacramento region.
