About the Project:

Gold Line stations are being modified to meet the requirements of the new low-floor light rail vehicles. After each station modification is completed, other stations will be temporarily closed in phases.

In this first phase, SacRT has funding to modify 14 Gold Line Stations between 59th Street and Sacramento Valley Stations. An additional 15 Gold Line Stations between University/65th Street and Historic Folsom Stations and 19 Blue Line Stations are pending due to funding. A total of 48 stations platforms need to be modified.

Riders will be notified about upcoming service disruptions in advance. To stay informed of light rail service disruptions, download the free Alert SacRT app from the App Store or Google Play.

The station modifications are one part of the Light Rail Modernization Project, which also include adding a passing track to provide 15-minute service to Folsom area stations and the purchase of new low-floor light rail vehicles.

Light Rail Modernization Project

SacRT is in the process of updating the light rail network with its Light Rail Modernization Project. This project will modernize the light rail system with new low-floor light rail vehicles, updated station platforms and a “passing track” in Folsom.

The Project Includes:

  • Installing a second track or “passing track” between Parkshore Drive and Bidwell Street in Folsom to operate 15-minute service, between Sunrise and Historic Folsom Stations, rather than the existing 30-minute service.
  • Purchase new low-floor light rail vehicles to modernize the aging light rail fleet.
  • Station conversions to accommodate the new low-floor light rail vehicles.
