Blue Line Service Disruption Ended Early
Regular Blue Line Service Resumes
Good news! The Blue Line service disruption ended five days early. Contractors completed the required platform construction work sooner than expected, allowing regular Blue Line light rail service to resume.
Blue Line Service Disruption: Oct 5 - 17
Beginning Monday, October 5, 2026, through Saturday, October 17, 2026, Blue Line light rail service will be temporarily suspended in different areas due to platform construction work at Fruitridge Station.
SacRT will operate a bus bridge to support riders traveling through the affected area.
Monday, October 5 – Wednesday, October 7, 2026:
- Trains will be able to go through the construction area, but Fruitridge Station will be closed to riders. A bus bridge will be in place between City College and 47th Ave stations for riders needing to get to or leave Fruitridge Station.
Thursday, Oct 8 – Saturday, October 17, 2026:
- A bus bridge will be in place between City College and Florin stations.
- In the North: Blue Line trains will operate normally between Watt/I-80 Station and City College Station
- In the South: Blue Line trains will operate between Florin Station and Cosumnes River College Station
Regular Blue Line service will resume Sunday, October 18, 2026.
How to Use the Bus Bridge
Traveling north from Cosumnes River College Station:
- Train service is available between Cosumnes River College and Florin stations.
- Exit the train at Florin Station and board the shuttle bus traveling toward City College Station. The bus will stop at 47th Ave, Fruitridge and City College stations. To continue heading north, board light rail at City College Station to head toward Watt/I-80 Station.
Traveling south from Watt/I-80 Station:
- Train service is available between Watt/I-80 and City College stations.
- Exit the train at City College Station and board the shuttle bus traveling toward Florin Station. The bus will stop at Fruitridge 47th Ave and Florin stations. To continue heading south, board light rail at Florin Station to head toward Cosumnes River College Station.

Why the Blue Line Needs This Construction Work
SacRT is raising station platforms by eight inches along the Blue Line so they meet the height requirements for the new low-floor trains. These upgrades will make boarding significantly easier for all riders, particularly seniors, individuals with disabilities, families with strollers, and passengers using mobility devices. This work requires temporarily shutting down the track segment so crews have safe access to the platform areas. Unlike many Gold Line stations, Blue Line stations are bordered by active Union Pacific Railroad tracks or nearby buildings, leaving no space to safely stage heavy equipment while trains continue operating. As a result, this work can only be completed when trains are not in service.
Why Closures Are Short and Targeted
Even with the complexity of Blue Line construction, SacRT is using one of the fastest turnaround schedules in the transit industry:
- Multiple stations completed within 15 to 21 day construction windows
- Shorter closures than those used by comparable agencies
- In contrast, when Los Angeles Metro modernized its Blue Line, the system experienced nine months of closures across two segments
SacRT deliberately designed the construction schedule to minimize long-term disruptions while completing the required upgrades quickly and safely.
Safety Reminder
Many station platforms have been raised eight inches to meet the height requirements of the new low-floor trains. Riders are reminded to watch their step when traveling through stations and to cross at the ends of platforms rather than in the middle for safety.
