Mobility Advisory
Council
SacRT’s Mobility Advisory Council (MAC) is committed to bridging the gap between community needs and public transit solutions. We are dedicated to fostering an inclusive, accessible, and sustainable transportation network that serves every member of our community.
Sacramento Regional Transit Mobility Advisory Council
SacRT’s MAC is actively recruiting new members, targeting both organizational and at-large categories. The council strives for a balanced representation across various types of disabilities, as well as geographic areas within the region.
The Journey and Vision of MAC
The Council consists of up to 17 members, with nine representing organizations or agencies that provide services or advocate for persons with disabilities and seniors, and eight at-large members who represent individuals with disabilities and seniors. This composition ensures a balance across different types of disabilities.
The MAC was established in 2005 as a voluntary advisory group, succeeding its predecessor, the Disabled and Elderly Committee for Accessible Transportation (DECAT). The council’s goal is to provide advice to SacRT on system accessibility features and improvements, facilitate communication between SacRT and key stakeholders representing individuals with disabilities and older adults, and advocate for the public transportation interests of these groups.
The MAC’s annual work plan addresses accessibility issues within the broader context of customer-oriented decisions, encompassing fare changes, customer information, and service plans. This plan is designed to provide opportunities for public input on local transportation and to address the needs of seniors and persons with disabilities.
Inclusive Transit Guidance
SacRT’s Board of Directors and staff greatly value the advisory consultation with the MAC on service issues affecting the disabled and senior community.
The MAC offers SacRT the consumer’s perspective on many of the system’s improvements, such as:
- Facilities, including stop and station design/access.
- Vehicle design.
- Major system expansion/capital plans, specific plans, and projects.
- Service plans and/or changes in advance of any significant service change proposals.
- Fixed route and paratransit service provision, including operator training, communication, and policy matters.
- Provide opportunities for public input on local transportation and needs for seniors and persons with disabilities.
- Organizational initiatives and transit ballot measures.
