SacRT Announces Public Workshops for Downtown Riverfront Streetcar Project

SACRAMENTO, CA – The Sacramento Regional Transit District (SacRT) invites community members to participate in a series of upcoming public workshops for the Downtown Riverfront Streetcar Project, a transformative connection between West Sacramento and downtown Sacramento. The project is designed to strengthen mobility, improve transit access, and create seamless connections to major destinations on both sides of the Sacramento River.

As the project advances, SacRT is engaging riders, residents, businesses, and stakeholders through Public Planning Workshops that will:

  • Discuss the project’s history and business case
  • Present findings from the racial equity analysis
  • Review updated design concepts
  • Provide responses to public comments received to date
  • Gather community perspectives and feedback to help shape next steps

Public input is a vital part of this process, and SacRT encourages all interested community members to attend.

About the Downtown Riverfront Streetcar Project

The Downtown Riverfront Streetcar will create a vital transit link between West Sacramento’s Sutter Health Park and Sacramento Valley Station, connecting directly to Amtrak, Capitol Corridor, San Joaquins, and SacRT’s bus and light rail system. The project will support major infill development, including the Sacramento Railyards, while offering a modern mobility option for residents, workers, and visitors.

The streetcar will operate with single car low-floor light rail trains, the same trains that are currently operating on the Gold Line. The revised alignment will use a single Siemens S700 streetcar vehicle, traveling from Sutter Health Park across the Tower Bridge, along Capitol Mall, and south on 3rd Street to N Street. Double tracks will be installed on N Street, connecting to SacRT’s existing light rail system at 7th and 8th Streets. The project is expected to begin construction in early 2027 and be ready for service by the end of 2029 or beginning of 2030.  Learn more at sacrt.com/Streetcar
