SACRAMENTO, CA – Sacramento Regional Transit District (SacRT) hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony today to celebrate the completion of the new Dos Rios Station on the Blue Line, marking a significant milestone in expanding transit access and supporting redevelopment in Sacramento’s River District.

The event commemorated the successful construction of the station; however, the station is not yet open for passenger service. Passenger service will begin only after regulatory CPUC certification review and approval. Once approved, SacRT will announce the official opening date.

“Today’s celebration represents years of planning and partnership to bring high-quality transit to an underserved and rapidly transforming part of Sacramento,” said Henry Li, SacRT General Manager/CEO. “While we await final regulatory approval before beginning service, the completion of the Dos Rios Station reflects SacRT’s commitment to expanding mobility options and supporting community revitalization.”

“The Dos Rios Station demonstrates what strong regional collaboration can achieve,” said SacRT Board Chair and Elk Grove Mayor Bobbie Singh-Allen. “This investment will improve access for residents, support ongoing redevelopment, and strengthen the overall transit network. We are proud to celebrate this milestone with our partners and the community.”

“Ask our neighbors in the River District what this station means to them and they will tell you about a shift they can get to on time or an appointment they no longer have to skip,” said Congresswoman Doris Matsui. “I fought for the RAISE grant and Community Project Funding behind Dos Rios because this community showed up with a plan and deserved strong federal support. SacRT is delivering real results that will serve families here for years to come.”

“This is more than just a new stop on the Blue Line. The Dos Rios Station is a vital connection for the River District, linking housing, jobs, and services,” said Sacramento Mayor Kevin McCarty. “With the new stadium, hospital, and concert venue underway, the River District is growing fast and will drive major economic development. We’re laying the groundwork to meet our future with equity, sustainability, and connectivity.”

“For residents of Sacramento’s River District, this new station will offer a vital connection to essential daily resources and services,” said Samuel Assefa, Director of the California Governor’s Office of Land Use and Climate Innovation (LCI) and Chair of the California Strategic Growth Council (SGC), which helped fund the project through the Transformative Climate Communities and Affordable Housing and Sustainable Communities programs. “Light rail connects more than places; it connects people and communities. This is what Strategic Growth Council investments are all about: building thriving, resilient, accessible communities for all Californians.”

“SHRA is proud to see the vision for a transit stop at the Mirasol Village affordable housing community come to fruition,” said Andrés Ramos, Chair, Sacramento Housing and Redevelopment Agency (SHRA).  “Working together with SacRT, the City of Sacramento and many partners, the new Dos Rios Blue Line Light Rail Station creates mobility and opportunity for residents and serves as a catalyst for greater investment along this gateway corridor and the River District and Railyards redevelopment area.”

Construction on the Dos Rios Station began in November 2024. Located along North 12th Street between Richards Boulevard and Sunbeam Avenue, the station will serve residents of the River District, including several new affordable housing communities. The project received $42.8 million in combined state and federal funding to support station construction, safe access improvements, and the surrounding redevelopment.
