SACRAMENTO, CA – The Sacramento Regional Transit District (SacRT) has resumed regular Blue Line light rail service as of Wednesday, October 14, three days ahead of schedule.
The temporary bus bridge between City College and Florin stations has ended, and regular Blue Line train service has resumed.
The service disruption was originally scheduled to continue through Saturday, October 17, while crews completed platform construction work at Fruitridge Station.
SacRT is raising Blue Line station platforms by eight inches to accommodate new low-floor light rail vehicles. These upgrades will make boarding easier and improve accessibility for all riders, particularly seniors, individuals with disabilities, families with strollers, and passengers using mobility devices.
The construction requires temporary service disruptions to provide crews with safe access to platform areas. Many Blue Line stations are bordered by active Union Pacific Railroad tracks or nearby buildings, limiting space for heavy equipment and making it necessary to complete this work while trains are not operating through the affected segments.
As platforms are raised to meet the height requirements of the new low-floor trains, riders are reminded to watch their step when traveling through stations and to cross tracks only at designated crossing areas at the ends of platforms.
SacRT thanks riders for their patience and understanding as these improvements make the system more accessible and prepare it for the next generation of light rail vehicles. Learn more about the project at sacrt.com/BlueLine.
