ENSACRAMENTO, CA — The Sacramento Regional Transit District (SacRT) will temporarily suspend Blue Line light rail service between Broadway Station and Fruitridge Station from Monday, July 27, through Saturday, August 15, 2026, to complete major platform upgrades at 4th Ave/Wayne Hultgren Station and City College Station.
The construction is part of SacRT’s ongoing modernization efforts to prepare the Blue Line for the introduction of new Siemens S700 low-floor light rail trains in 2027. Upgrading station platforms now, will improve accessibility and ensure compatibility with the new fleet.
To minimize impacts to riders, SacRT will operate a bus bridge (shuttle bus) between Broadway and Fruitridge stations throughout the construction period. Shuttle buses will serve all impacted stations during normal light rail operating hours, with frequent service and additional staff available to assist riders with transfers.
Service Impacts
Monday, July 27
- Trains will pass through 4th Ave/Wayne Hultgren and City College stations but will not stop at either station.
- Riders needing to travel to the impacted stations should catch the bus bridge shuttles located at Broadway Station or Fruitridge Station.
Tuesday, July 28 – Saturday, August 15
- No Blue Line train service between Broadway and Fruitridge stations.
- Bus bridge shuttle service will connect Broadway, 4th Ave/Wayne Hultgren, City College and Fruitridge stations.
- Light rail service will continue to operate:
- North of Broadway Station to Watt/I-80 Station.
- South of Fruitridge Station to Cosumnes River College (CRC) Station.
Regular Blue Line service will resume on Sunday, August 16, 2026.
Supporting Students During Back-to-School
SacRT recognizes that the temporary service disruption overlaps with the start of the school year for one Sacramento City Unified School District (SCUSD) campus, which begins on Tuesday, August 11. While the construction may affect students who use 4th Ave/Wayne Hultgren Station to travel to C.K. McClatchy High School, SacRT worked closely with its contractor to significantly reduce those impacts.
The original construction schedule required a three-week disruption during the start of the school year. By accelerating the work during the summer construction season, SacRT reduced the overlap with school to just four days (August 11th –15th). Completing the work during warmer weather also allows the new concrete platforms to cure more quickly, helping avoid a longer closure that could occur during cooler or inclement weather.
To support students and other riders, SacRT will:
- Station additional staff at Broadway Station, Fruitridge Station and key shuttle stops to assist riders.
- Coordinate directly with SCUSD, C.K. McClatchy High School and nearby schools to provide customized travel information.
- Share service information through school communication channels to help students and families plan ahead.
How the Bus Bridge Works
Traveling north from Cosumnes River College Station
- Take the Blue Line train to Fruitridge Station.
- Transfer to the bus bridge shuttle, which will stop at City College, 4th Ave/Wayne Hultgren and Broadway stations.
- At Broadway Station, transfer back to the Blue Line to continue north toward Watt/I-80 Station.
Traveling south from Watt/I-80 Station
- Take the Blue Line train to Broadway Station.
- Transfer to the bus bridge shuttle, which will stop at 4th Ave/Wayne Hultgren, City College and Fruitridge stations.
- At Fruitridge Station, transfer back to the Blue Line to continue south toward Cosumnes River College Station.
