Rider Alert: Gold Line Station Platform Changes
Station platform construction on the Gold Line is nearly complete. SacRT is reminding riders to watch their step and keep their eyes focused when walking in the station as the platforms have been raised to meet the height requirement of the new low-floor light rail trains. Riders are urged to cross the stations at the ends of each platform and not in the middle of the station.

SacRT is extending station closure times for Gold Line platform modifications.

Below is the schedule for June 2024. It is important to remember that the schedule may change due to various reasons including weather.

Closed Through Friday, June 14*
The outbound platform at Archives Plaza Station  will be closed for customers boarding and deboarding. Light rail trains will travel through Archives Plaza Station; however, passengers will not be able to board or deboard on the outbound side of  the station because of construction activity. The nearest outbound stations are 13th Street Station and  8th & O Station.

Wednesday, June 12, 2024
Due to a SacRT related event, the Green Line will be temporarily suspended between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. Riders can use bus route 11.

Saturday, June 15 , 2024
Due to station platform construction that will impact the tracks at Archives Plaza Station, several light rail stations on the Blue and Gold lines will not have light rail service. Instead, bus bridges (shuttle bus between stations) will be in place:

      • Gold Line: Bus bridge (shuttle buses operate between stations) between 13th Street and Sacramento Valley stations.
      • Blue Line: Bus bridge (shuttle buses operate between stations) between Globe and 13th Street stations.

*No bus bridge (shuttle bus between stations) will be available during these closures.

About the Project:

Gold Line stations are being modified to meet the requirements of the new low-floor light rail vehicles. After each station modification is completed, other stations will be temporarily closed in phases.

In this first phase, SacRT has funding to modify 29 Gold Line Stations between Historic Folsom Station and Sacramento Valley Station. The next phase will modify 19 Blue Line Stations. A total of 48 stations platforms need to be modified.

Riders will be notified about upcoming service disruptions in advance. To stay informed of light rail service disruptions, download the free Alert SacRT app from the App Store or Google Play.

The station modifications are one part of the Light Rail Modernization Project, which also include adding a passing track to provide 15-minute service to Folsom area stations and the purchase of new low-floor light rail vehicles.

Light Rail Modernization Project

SacRT is in the process of updating the light rail network with its Light Rail Modernization Project. This project will modernize the light rail system with new low-floor light rail vehicles, updated station platforms and a “passing track” in Folsom.

The Project Includes:

  • Installing a second track or “passing track” between Parkshore Drive and Bidwell Street in Folsom to operate 15-minute service, between Sunrise and Historic Folsom Stations, rather than the existing 30-minute service.
  • Purchase new low-floor light rail vehicles to modernize the aging light rail fleet.
  • Station conversions to accommodate the new low-floor light rail vehicles.
