Watt/I‑80 Transit Center Improvement Project: Construction Shift Begins Tuesday, August 25, 2026

SACRAMENTO, CA – Sacramento Regional Transit District (SacRT) is advising riders of upcoming changes to construction activities at the Watt/I‑80 Transit Center as part of the ongoing improvement project. Beginning Tuesday, August 25, 2026, adjustments to station access will impact riders who use the upper-level bus stops.

Northbound Area Reopens
The northbound bus stop on the upper level (east side) will reopen, along with the northbound stairs and elevator. Riders may resume using this stop for regular service.

The temporary bus stop in front of Wendy’s will continue serving its existing routes, but it is no longer needed as a temporary location for Watt/I‑80 riders. In addition, the detour on bus route 15 will end.

Southbound Area Closure
The southbound bus stop on the upper level (west side) will close for final construction work. The southbound stairs and elevator will also be closed.

Riders using southbound service should proceed to the temporary bus stop on Watt Avenue near Longview Drive, located in front of the Sacramento Inn & Suites.

Final Construction Phase
This marks the final phase of construction for the Watt/I‑80 Transit Center Improvement Project. Once this phase is complete, the entire station will reopen for full access. Work is expected to conclude in late September 2026.

Project Background
The Watt/I‑80 Transit Center Improvement Project began in July 2024 and includes a series of upgrades designed to improve safety, accessibility, and passenger circulation at one of the region’s busiest transit hubs.
