SACRAMENTO, CA – The Sacramento Regional Transit District (SacRT) will temporarily suspend Blue Line light rail service between Broadway Station and Fruitridge Station during the weekend of Saturday, August 29 through Sunday, August 30, 2026. This short-term disruption is required to complete platform grinding work at the 4th Ave/Wayne Hultgren and City College stations.

During the construction window, both stations will be closed and tracks will be impassable within the work zone. SacRT will operate a bus bridge throughout the weekend to support riders traveling through the affected area.

Bus Bridge Service

• Shuttle buses will operate between Broadway Station and Fruitridge Station
• Stops include: Broadway, 4th Ave/Wayne Hultgren, City College, and Fruitridge stations

Blue Line Light Rail Operations

• North section: Trains will operate between Watt/I‑80 and Broadway stations
• South section: Trains will operate between Fruitridge and Cosumnes River College stations

SacRT appreciates riders’ patience as we complete this necessary work to improve accessibility and support the arrival of new low-floor trains.

Project Background
SacRT is raising station platforms by eight inches along the Blue Line to meet height requirements for the new Siemens S700 low-floor trains. These upgrades will make boarding significantly easier for seniors, individuals with disabilities, families with strollers, and riders using mobility devices. Blue Line construction requires temporary closures because many stations are bordered by active Union Pacific Railroad tracks or nearby buildings, leaving no safe space to stage heavy equipment while trains operate.

SacRT’s light rail system, originally opened in 1987, is undergoing modernization to improve accessibility, reliability, and long-term performance. Historically, ADA access was limited to the front car, requiring many riders to climb stairs to board. The modernization project will allow boarding from any car for riders of all abilities.
