SacRT Behind the Scenes
Think about the people in your life who can’t drive, don’t own a car, or can’t afford to. Your neighbor who uses a wheelchair. The veteran down the street getting to his VA appointment. The high schooler on your block heading to her first job. A senior citizen who moved here 30 years ago and still needs to get to the doctor.
For many Sacramento residents, SacRT isn’t a convenience. It’s the thing that makes their day possible.
A public transit system that works is one you barely notice. But the people working behind the scenes think about it every single day, and right now, there’s a real situation worth understanding, because what happens next depends on all of us.
Learn about the progress made, the real costs, and the challenges that remain for bus routes, light rail lines, and the people that keep the Sacramento economy moving, even if you don’t ride.
Value SacRT Brings to the Region
Shared Investment

Fiscal Stewardship
- Despite limited funding, SacRT has secured nearly $1 billion in grants and restored financial stability.
Safety & Security Performance
- SacRT is leading the way with award-winning safety innovations, real-time surveillance, and a growing security team.
Community Value
- SacRT is a trusted community partner keeping fares affordable for those who need it most. Transit also supports recreation and social trips, strengthening community mobility.
What We Need to Serve You Better
As Sacramento grows, so do the demands on our transit system. A dedicated local funding source, such as a transit-specific sales tax, would allow SacRT to:
- Increase safety and security on buses and trains
- Invest in signal and communications upgrades to support emergency response
- Ensure visitors from outside of Sacramento who shop, dine, attend events, or do business in Sacramento contribute to the transit infrastructure
- Keep transit affordable for those who need it most — including seniors, veterans, students, youth, and people with disabilities
- Expand safe routes to school and improve infrastructure for children
- Maintain past investments in a state of good repair
Meeting these needs is essential to building a more connected, equitable, and resilient Sacramento.
