SacRT Celebrates California Clean Air Day with Free Rides on Wednesday, October 1, 2025

SACRAMENTO, CA – In celebration of California Clean Air Day, the Sacramento Regional Transit District (SacRT) is offering free rides on all fixed-route bus and light rail services on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, with a free ride flyer. Riders can simply print or screenshot the Free Ride Flyer available at sacrt.com/CleanAirDay to board for free.

This initiative supports the statewide effort to reduce air pollution and promote healthier communities by encouraging residents to leave their cars at home and try public transit.

“Transportation is the largest source of air pollution in California, and single-occupancy vehicles are a major contributor,” said SacRT General Manager/CEO Henry Li. “By offering a free ride option on California Clean Air Day, we’re giving people a chance to experience the benefits of transit while helping to clear the air.”

“California Clean Air Day is a reminder that small choices, like riding the bus or light rail, can have a big impact on our environment and our health,” said SacRT Board Chair and Sacramento City Councilmember Rick Jennings. “SacRT is proud to be part of the solution by making transit more accessible and encouraging our community to take action.”

The Impact of Choosing Transit

  • A single transit bus can remove up to 60 cars from the road during a commute.
  • One light rail train car can take the place of 100 single-passenger vehicles.
  • Transit helps reduce vehicle emissions, traffic congestion, and commute-related stress.
  • Riders can save an average of $13,000 per year by switching from driving to public transit.

Take the Clean Air Day Pledge
