Human Trafficking Awareness Month
SacRT and Community Partners Unite to Raise Awareness and Support Survivors
January is National Human Trafficking Awareness Month, and SacRT is proud to join forces with local law enforcement and nonprofit partners to shine a light on this critical issue. Through a powerful public awareness campaign, we’re using our transit system to help protect vulnerable individuals, connect survivors to resources, and educate the community.
Watch the PSA
Our new public service announcement (PSA) highlights the signs of human trafficking and how you can help. Watch and share to raise awareness.

Alert SacRT App
The AlertSacRT app is an essential tool for Sacramento transit users, offering real-time rider alerts and a discreet, effective way to report safety and security concerns directly to Regional Transit Police Services (RTPS). Users can send anonymous messages, including text, photos, or six-second videos, to report suspicious activities.
This initiative complements the existing surveillance and communication systems across all light rail stations, closely monitored by a dedicated security team.
Despite constant patrols, the collective vigilance of passengers, armed with local knowledge and the AlertSacRT app, is crucial in identifying and reporting any unusual occurrences.
By downloading AlertSacRT, passengers not only stay updated on service disruptions but also play a pivotal role in maintaining the safety and security of the transit system.

Low-Floor Trains
- Purchasing a new fleet of low-floor trains that allow passengers to directly enter trains at nearly floor level.
- Passengers using mobility devices may board the train using a passenger deployed bridge plate and ramp assembly.
Station Platform Changes
- Reconfiguring light rail station platforms, in sequence over time, to accommodate the new low-floor trains.
- Station construction work completed on Gold Line stations in summer 2024 and began on the Blue Line in September 2024 and is expected to continue through 2027.
- Requires temporarily closing stations while that station’s platform is modified to meet the height requirements of the new low-floor light rail vehicles.
15-Minute Service
- Added a passing track to operate 15-minute service between Sunrise and Historic Folsom stations, rather than the existing 30-minute service.
How to Ride New Low-Floor Light Rail Trains
When using the new low-floor light rail vehicles, all riders must board from the level platform instead of the mini-high ramps. Riders in mobility devices, walkers or visually impaired can board and exit the train using either one of the two middle doorways by accessing a deployable ramp. Riders press the “wheelchair accessible” button to deploy the ramp. Once the ramp has stopped moving, the doors will open. For visually impaired riders, tactile door indicator tiles will be available closest to the lead car on the station platform.
Riders not needing to use the deployable ramp, press the “door open” button at any of the active doorways either at the ends of the train or at the middle doors if the ramp is not being used.
