Respect the Ride: Know the Rules

SacRT is committed to providing a safe, clean, and respectful transit experience for everyone. That’s why certain behaviors are prohibited — and may result in a citation. Whether you’re a daily commuter or an occasional rider, knowing the rules helps keep our system running smoothly.

Transit Ambassadors are increasing enforcement efforts to help keep your ride safe, clean, and respectful.

Respect the Ride: Follow the 4-Bike Rule on Low-Floor Trains

To ensure safety and accessibility for all riders, SacRT enforces a maximum of four bicycles per low-floor light rail train car (S700 models), two per side.

These modern trains have designated bike areas, but space is limited. This rule helps prevent overcrowding and ensures access for riders using mobility devices, strollers, or carrying luggage.

Respect the Ride. Respect the Driver.

They’re more than just drivers — they’re the heart of our transit system.

At SacRT, our bus operators are parents, neighbors, mentors, and friends. Every day, they navigate our streets with care and professionalism, ensuring thousands of riders reach their destinations safely.

But their job isn’t always easy. Operators face challenges that go beyond the road — from fare disputes to safety concerns. That’s why SacRT is committed to protecting them and creating a culture of respect on board.

Our safety efforts include:

  • Protective shields on buses
  • Conflict resolution training
  • Increased security presence
  • Automated fare announcements
  • Real-time camera monitoring

Let’s treat the people behind the wheel with the dignity they deserve.

Respect the Ride. Respect the Transit Ambassadors

They’re not just checking fares — they’re assisting riders!

SacRT’s Transit Ambassadors are a vital part of our rider experience. They provide directions, assist with validation of fare, and help ensure everyone feels safe and welcome on board. But more than that, they’re building trust, one rider at a time.
